OUGD402 | Studio Brief 01 - In Fairyland Exhibition

Recently, Leeds College of Art held the exhibition "In Fairyland". The exhibition was inspired by the Cottingley Fairies which intrigued many people about the existence of fairies by editing images of fairies into photographs. I was unsure what to expect from the exhibition, but it was far creepier than expected.
There were some beautiful pieces of work on display. There was a floral theme in a lot of the work and flowers have always been appealing to me. However, the exhibition also featured many hanging bees, wasps and other insects as well as stuffed birds and animal skeletons. All of these had delicately crafted skeletons with fairy wings on top. I was amazed at the size of the models, but the dead insects made me feel uneasy.

I did like the colour choice for the vinyl exhibition title, which was a bright green. This really stood out against the white and tied in with the plants. However, the typesetting of the title could have been improved.

Overall, I liked the visuals of the exhibition and the 3D element was an interesting addition. The work featured was highly skillful, but I disliked the dead animals used.
